Rock, Snow & Water at Clwyd Theatr Cymru

Castell y Gwynt  Pastel on Board

Not sure if this will be my 14th solo show at Clwyd Theatr Cymru. Always been an excellent venue for showing work. The Community Gallery is a nice intimate space, well lit and full of chatty theatregoers. I've been busier than ever this year so the walls with be splattered with rock, snow and water.

Tryfan

Tryfan with Llyn Caseg-fraith (Pastel)
During a recent poll of readers of Trail magazine Tryfan was voted Britain's favourite mountain. Looks good from every angle and sandwiched between Siabod and Y Carneddau the views are spectacular.

This painting will form part of my display during the Helfa Gelf Art Trail which will be open to the public during the last three weekends in September.

No leaves and dampness in the air, but it's only a painting

Autumn tracks (Pastel)

The leaves have all gone and it's muddy underfoot. Autumn is here but only in a painting.See it, listen to it squelch and feel the cold air on your face. Experience the picture during the studio tour in September.  http://www.helfagelf.co.uk/en/artists/alwyn-dempster-jones

Melting snow for Helfa Gelf 2014

Snow on a wall (Pastel/Watercolour)

I like snow and I also like dry stone walls, the snow didn't stick around very long this year so I had to be quick. The sun is low in the sky and illuminates the wall from the side with a pinky light. What little heat there has been from the sun during the day has all but gone, it will soon be dark.

This painting can be seen as part of Helfa Gelf when I open my studio for the last three weekends in September. http://www.helfagelf.co.uk/en/artists/alwyn-dempster-jones

Helfa Gelf Open Studios 2014

Once again, for three weekends in September I will be taking part in the Helfa Gelf Art TrailNow in its ninth year, this free annual event is spread right across North Wales with studios taking part in Gwynedd, Conwy, Flintshire, Denbighshire and Wrexham. It is a unique chance for visitors to peek behind the scenes, experience this normally hidden world and get to chat to the artists and crafts people about their creative process.

North Wales Open art exhibition 2014

Slate wall   Pastel/Watercolour/Ink on board

Pebbles   Pastel

Two paintings entered and accepted this year at the North Wales Open at Clwyd Theatr Cymru, Mold, North Wales. An early Spring this year marked the return of rich blue skies with strong uninterrupted sunlight making the yellow of the lichen all the more vivid.

Alderley Edge Art Festival OPENS

After months of talking, a lot of planning, pavement pounding and support from a long list of people the exhibition has finally opened. A very busy night perfecting the art of crowd control!

Alderley Edge Art Festival - new work

Pebbles Pastel (44cm x 50cm)

There's nothing like the looming deadline of an exhibition to clear the head and inspire me to create some new pieces of work. I've always liked painting rocks, they're passive, they don't move much and unlike portrait painters I don't need to build a relationship with them. Rock dosen't react to me and I can get on with the job in hand. The hazards are few, apart from curious holidaymakers, sniffing dogs and an incoming tide!

Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside

There's nothing quite like a long white wall, a stack of paintings screaming to be hung and a well charged screwdriver. Twenty paintings will be holidaying in Venue Cymru, Llandudno over the next three months. Wish you were here?

Blue sky with dry stone wall (Pastel & Ink)

The jet stream has moved and I've made a pilgrimage to my wall. The sun was out and the skies were blue. I haven't painted a wall since last year and I've got a feeling there are more to come over the next few months. Blue, yellow and black.
